Are there any super popular 40s swing songs that would work?

i'm going to audition for american idol next year and i need a swing song. not just any old song...something classic and inspirational. Range is no object. I'm a male mezzo tenor with an incredibly huge range in full voice from low f (2nd octave) to high d (5th octave) Although I would prefer something no lower than A flat of 2nd octave and no higher than A of the 4th octave. Any suggestions?|||Well the big male vocalists were the obvious ones, that were coming out of their big band backgrounds and stepping into the lime light.

Frank Sinatra

Nat King Cole

Dean Martin

There were also all maile quartets that some great songs as well, like the Mills Brothers or the Ink Spots.

You should also listen to some more contemporary male swing/jazz singers like Harry Connick Jr.

What exactly are you looking for? More of a ballad, or more of a true "swingin" tune?

I'll give you a list of both:

Ballads:

Mills Brothers - I Guess I'll Get the Papers and Go Home (my personal favorite)

Mills Brothers - Till Then

Mills Brothers %26amp; Louis Armstrong - Cherry

Ink Spots - I Don't Want To Set the World on Fire

Ink Spots - When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano

Nat King Cole - Sweet Loraine

Nat King Cole - Slow Down

Tony Bennett - Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Swingin':

Joe Williams (and Count Basie) - Everyday I Have the Blues

Joe Williams (and Count Basie) - Until I Met You (Corner Pocket)

Sammy Davis Jr. - Love Me or Leave Me

Frank Sinatra - All of Me

Frank Sinatra - Lean Baby

Frank Sinatra - You Make Me Feel So Young

Dean Martin - True Love

Dean Martin - On a Slow Boat To China

Nat King Cole - The Best Man

Slim Gailard %26amp; Slam Stewart - Oh Lady Be Good

Harry Connick Jr. - A Wink and a Smile

Bobby Darin - Clementine

Cab Calloway - Hep Cat's Love Song

Fred Astaire - Steppin Out With My Baby

Also check out anything by Lou Rawls

Here's also a list standard great jazz/swing songs that you should look up different versions, and see which ones you like. They can either be ballads or swingin'.

Stormy Weather

Blue Skies

Honeysuckle Rose

S'Wonderful

Delovely

After You've Gone

On the Sunnyside of the Street

Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams

St. Louis Blues (look for a version with lyrics)

I've Got a Feeling I'm Falling

I hope that helps!
