How do you overlap images using the Java swing library?

I can't find any good swing tutorials that say how to do advanced stuff like this.|||The best book on this is "Filthy Rich Clients". You have to use Java2D, Swing and you have to use Alpha. There are other java platforms for animated graphics such as Process and JavaFX, but you asked about Swing.
