I like playing tennis and I have a powerful swing. The problem is, I usually always hit it too hard and it goes out. Is there anyway that I can control my power without being passive? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.|||Brett Hobden gave a very nice lecture entitled "Meet the Topspins" in which he told us about several different types of topspin shots. I think if you can master topspin, in its different varieties, you will be able to swing out as hard as you like, while the spin brings the ball back down into the court. Some balls can be hit with clearance of several feet over the net, and this is a good thing. Others, like passing shots or short angled balls, may just barely get over, but they're all topspin.
Underspin is also necessary, of course, for defensive shots as well as dinks, drop shots, obs, deep floaters, etc.
Another thing is that you can still finish your swing, but not hit the ball "full-out." Swinging as hard as you can on every ball is seldom a good idea. You don't "pull the trigger" until you have a ball that really needs to be attacked. This is a big part of intelligent shot selection.
Normally, you must duke it out with the opponent a while until he gives you a short ball or something you can "nail." Until then, be content to move the ball around the court, patiently waiting for an opening.

Sometimes, passively getting the ball back over the net is the absolute best that you can do! Don't feel bad about it.
Lobs and drop shots are very, very powerful, so don't put anybody down who uses them, even the so-called "pushers." If you can't beat a pusher, then he's a better player than you are :-) They can be very tough to beat, if you dont know how to do it or have the game to do it.
Sportsmanship might not be #1, but it's way ahead of whatever is in 2nd place :-)
Best of luck :-)
Here is Hobden's web site:|||I have this problem myself. At first, I weakened every shot until I got to a consistent, but still powerful shot. As I moved up in ranks, and played against more difficult players. I had to ramp up power to keep up with the pace. I ended up buying a racket that was meant for control. And that's why I love my pure storm %26lt;3
